Hampshire Information

This section of the wiki is for information about Hampshire contributed by HantsLUG members, which is likely to be of interest to LUG members. As such it will probably be computer-related, but not strictly on the topic of Linux. (Linux related information should go in LinuxHints of course).

Considerably more information about Hampshire itself can be found at Hantsweb.

Which computer shops in Hampshire are recommended by members and which ones to avoid ...

Computer Fairs

For those who know what they want and are pretty brave you could go to one of the computer fairs in Hampshire. These usually take place on Sundays 10am-3pm. There are fairs in Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth, Gosport, Fareham and Eastleigh. For more information go to http://www.computerfairs.co.uk. Most of the traders are pretty helpful, but just beware of the after-sales service, which is not as good as shops, and warranty can be a little bit dodgy! If you can travel, go to the Computer fair in London's UCL university buildings.

Entry costs £2 for fairs organised by British Computer Fairs and Beacomp. (At least one member has reported paying up to £10 at other fairs though - so watch out!)

Having used the British Computer Fairs in the area for several years I have got to know the traders and they seem more honest and straightforward in their dealings than computer shops. – (Unattributed)

Jamie's Computer Club

Jamie's Computer Club is a charitable organisation that recycles donated computer-related equipment. It holds regular sales for these goods, which are often attended by HantsLUG members. Read more on their website.
