What happened:
- The fair was quite small, with about 10 stall holders in total.
- As a new fair, it wasn't hugely busy, but there was a constant trickle of people.
- Some new / lurking LUG members visited the fair to meet other LUG members.
- A handful of visitors spent some time at the stand, using the demo machines and chatting about Linux.
- Tony got interviewed by a trainee journalist.
We sold 4 Knoppix CDs and 5 copies of TheOpenCD at £2 each.
- We sold 4 Ubuntu packs, 1 Fedora Core 3 set and 1 LNX-BBC CD.
Things that we learnt:
- Need to ensure that we actually have CD ISOs of distros, not jidgo or DVD versions. Perhaps burn a DVD of the latest ISOs in advance?
- Need signs to encourage people to play with the demo machines.
Would LUG mousemats / cuddly Tuxes / Tux case badges be worth selling? People are attracted to Tux even if they don't know about Linux. Could be some nice subliminal advertising.
- Only have 1 colour of each leaflet on display - people get confused and overwhelmed when there are multiple leaflets in multiple colours.
- Some useful web resources, e.g. mirror of the LUG site / Jamie's site?
- Schedule of upcoming meetings / infopoints etc. (subject to confirmation) in poster or leaflet form.
It's easy to scare people off by being too "forthcoming". It's much better to be ready to catch their eye and smile, rather than leap forward offering to help them read a leaflet.
