iriver X20

This is a great little audio/video player. It was a toss up between this and the 8GB iAudio 7. When I placed my order the iriver was GBP10 cheaper, though on Amazon today the iAudio is now cheaper. Both play Ogg files and can be easily controlled from Linux.

It is not perfect but it does most of the things I wanted and I'm glad I bought it.

The Good

The Bad

The Ugly

It's not an iPod so this is either a very good or very bad thing...

Linux Config

It works with the KDE media detector framework and is automatically mounted if you want it. I didn't want KDE to do that so I added the following rules to my /etc/udev/local.rules file:

BUS=="scsi", SYSFS{vendor}=="iriver",  SYSFS{size}=="15761408", SYMLINK="iriver-x20-internal"
BUS=="scsi", SYSFS{vendor}=="iriver",  SYSFS{size}=="3967239",  SYMLINK="iriver-x20-external"

The unit has internal flash ram and a micro-SD slot, and I had to use the size of the media to tell them apart. Now I have a udev rule I can create a fstab entry for them, and have them mounted consistently. Putting entries in fstab also turns off the KDE automatic behaviour - which is also what I wanted.
