Resizing an XFS filesystem is very easy.

  1. The resize has to be done whilst the file system is mounted.
  2. To increase the filesystem across an existing LVM, following the instructions on /AddingAnotherDisk up to step 5.

  3. To resize the filesystem to take up all the available space in the logical volume, run:

xfs_growfs /home
  1. It is important to note that the argument supplied is the mount point, not the device node.
  2. There are plenty of options to restrict the size to which the filesystem expands and other aspects of the command's behaviour. Check out man xfs_growfs for more.

  3. The command runs very fast! Verify that it has worked using the df -h command.
