Another +1 for the Prolific from Maplin (the £19.95 one with the attached cable). I had one of those go defective recently (cable break). After I'd replaced it (my need for it was urgent) I managed to reterminate the cable and the original now works again. I don't need 2. Would you like to make me an offer for it?
