Hi guys,
Thanks; some good advice there, which also fits pretty well with my own
thoughts.
Most of my machines here are XUbuntu, two are AVLinux, which is a
spin-off from MX Linux.
I think what I'll do is try out copies of MX Linux and Mint on a old-ish
machine I have here and see how much they differ from my usual distros
and how well they work on an old-ish machine.  Yes, it's likely that if
anyone does go Linux I'll be supporting them, so I'd best be sure I'm
comfortable with them myself.  The 'just works' is what we hope for and
mostly the more popular distros do tend to do that ... mostly.
I'll put together some support documents about making USB sticks,
booting (I haven't done a new install for a while, I guess EFI and
secure boot still need attention), together with pointers to the main
everyday applications.  I'll probably make a few USB sticks that I can
give away if people seem genuinely keen.
I will, of course, follow up all of that with a full grounding in the
CLI, including bash, perl, awk and regular expressions. :-D
Thanks.
         Gordon.
