Subject: [Hampshire] Computer problem
Can anyone explain this, please?

For some time, my computer has had an intermittent problem: the video
output (HDMI) fails to work for a short time, seconds to minutes. The
screen just goes completely blank. It usually recovers, but sometimes
I have to restart the computer. The problem does not usually occur
after I have been using the computer for a while, maybe 20 minutes,
just soon after startup.

More recently, the problem occurs on startup. Everything is normal
until the login window should appear, but I just get a blank screen.
The only option here is to restart, often several times, until I get
a login window. I have the impression that having the mains power on
for maybe 30 minutes before starting reduces the frequency of this
problem.

The system is Debian GNU/Linux 11, KDE Plasma, running on 12 x AMD
Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics, AMD RENOIR graphics processor.

I would be grateful for any ideas of what is going wrong here, and how
to fix it. An internet search has not helped, I have not found any
mention of any similar problem.
