HI.

Listing what he currently has is very helpful.
As others have said, you could just update the RAM in the laptop to 16GB,
and that would probably be enough.
If you wish to buy a new laptop, I would choose one with 16GB RAM (or more)
and about 512GB NVME SSD (fast disk).
The CPU speed is probably not going to make much difference for MATLAB,
because the disk will be the limiting factor.
The GPU is probably not important, but if you ever wish to install Linux on
it, I would avoid NVIDIA GPUs.
Go for AMD or Intel graphics on the laptop.
